Last Day of School Set for Brookfield Students

The last day will be a full day and one less than an average academic year.

After missing school for hurricane winds, ice storms and a blizzard, the final day of the 2012-13 academic year is set for a full day on Friday, June 21.

“Based on the number of days we’ve canceled due to weather related events, our last day of school would sit on Monday, June 24,” Superintendent Anthony Bivona said Wednesday, bringing the total number of instructional days to 182, the norm for Brookfield but two more than is required by state law.

“This would be bringing back students and running all transportation for the district on a Monday,” Bivona explained, adding that it would only be a half-day. He estimated a savings of between $7,000-$8,000 in transportation costs by ending the year on the 21st.
