Five Brookfield Students Place In Earth Day Poster Contest

Five Brookfield Finalists in 3rd Annual HRRA Poster Contest

Five Brookfield students placed in the 3rd annual Earth Day Recycling Poster Contest held by the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA).  Brookfield has first place entries in three grades as well as a second and third place finish.

  • Kindergartener Kaitlyn Sternhardt – 1st
  • First Grader Susan Rawding – 2nd
  • Third Grader Juliet Bussell – 3rd
  • Fourth Grader Chloe Vettorino – 1st
  • Eleventh Grader Danielle Rice – 1st

Brookfield sent in 125 of the 945 entries in the HRRA region. Thirty-nine students placed, with as many as four students finishing in each school grade (some grades had as few as one winner). Charlotte Birdwell, a third grader from Redding, was the overall regional winner and her poster will be displayed on a billboard in her hometown. 

First place winners will receive a $100 savings bond, sponsored by Union Savings Bank; second will receive a $75 bond and third place winners will receive a $50 bond.

HRRA is the regional solid waste and recycling management authority representing the municipalities of Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield and Sherman.
