Brookfield Public Schools Closed Wednesday, Oct 31

With widespread outages persisting, school district has cancelled classes for another day.

According to the school district website and a message on the district phone line, Brookfield public schools will be closed Wednesday, October 31.

A district-wide message sent out Tuesday afternoon said that Huckleberry Hill Elementary School (HHES) and Brookfield High School (BHS) are currently without power and that there will be another update from the school system by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, 80 percent of Brookfield is without power, some 6,300 residents and businesses. Brookfield’s emergency management personnel and Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) liaison are meeting at 4 p.m. to discuss the current situation and possibly establish preliminary timetables for restoration. (Brookfield Patch will provide updated information after that meeting.)

Residents who are without power can use the emergency shelter at BHS for showers, food preparation and overnight stays. Residents can also charge their devices, use the Internet and get clean water at Town Hall, the Senior Center, police station and both fire houses.

See First Selectman Bill Davidson’s storm blog for more emergency information.

I would recommend supporting an increase similar to Ridgefield's which was under 2% (1.97%). If aRead More community like Ridgefield can perform at high levels with an increase under 2%, the Board of Education, in asking for almost twice that is openly admitting that they have installed inefficient management in school administration. Further, the sewer system on the referendum will require municipal funding since it is backed by the full faith and credit of the town of Brookfield and reduces the town's borrowing ability - the advertisement for which indicated it would not impact municipal funding.
