BHS Principal Takes Position in New Canaan

High School Principal Dr. Bryan Luizzi will start at NCHS on July 1.

Brookfield High School (BHS) Principal Dr. Bryan Luizzi, who is completing his fifth year at BHS, has been named as the next principal at New Canaan High School, it was announced by New Canaan Superintendent Dr. David Abbey Monday afternoon.

Luizzi emerged as the top choice following what was termed, "an extensive search," which began shortly after former Principal Tony Pavia announced that he would be stepping down.

"It will be a real loss for Brookfield," Board of Education (BOE) Chairman Ray DiStephan said Monday, adding that he heard Luizzi was "pretty heavily recruited by New Canaan."

The school district will now follow standard procedures, which will begin with Superintendent Anthony Bivona’s office.

Luizzi “didn’t make his intentions known until very recently,” according to DiStephan, however the BOE chairman did not think that the district would have trouble finding a replacement in time.

Luizzi is expected to assume his new position in New Canaan on July 1 and DiStephan hopes to have a new principal in place “a few weeks minimum before that,” which he believes is “very attainable.”

“The sooner the better,” he said. “But I don’t think we’re in a place where we feel pressured to get a replacement in there.”

Luizzi, who began his career in education as an English teacher, is also currently an adjunct professor at Central Connecticut State University where he teaches graduate students.

He was not immediately available for comment.
