Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department Donations

Recently, I visited the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Co., Inc. located on Pocono Road in Brookfield, CT. While there I attended a presentation that gave me insight into their organization and how they operate. I was so impressed by the men and women who dedicate their time and effort to this volunteer organization. 

I don't think a lot of the residents of Brookfield realize that these men and women are not compensated for their efforts whether they are firemen, EMS, administrators or Board of Directors. There are 69 active members which include 51 just fire, 8 just EMS, 10 both. They give up holidays, sleep, quality time with family, etc. just to assist us, the residents. They even have to pay for their own gas to get to the firehouse.

They also have to attend drills and training several times a year. They hold annual events including Kids Day, community tours, school visits and fund drives.

So please, when that Fund Drive letter arrives asking for a donation, don't throw it away. Fill it out and send them a check for what you can afford to give.  Remember, you can't put out your own fire or drive to the hospital with a broken leg.
