14 Longest and Shortest Commutes in CT

As homebuyers put more emphasis on being closer to work, Patch counts down the longest and shortest average commutes in the state.

As we wind down our series analyzing the major criteria homebuyers look at when deciding where to purchase their home, this week Patch is looking at how long it takes residents to get to work and how they get there.

Commute time “seems to be almost everything,” according to William Raveis Realtor Barbara Jasinski, a residential broker based out of Ridgefield.

Jasinski said homebuyers often find a community they like and consciously pick one side of town or the other to shorten their commute time.

“Especially with the younger people,” she said. “They don’t want to be like their parents that did the long commute for big money — they clearly want shorter commutes.”

The lists above and below show the longest and shortest commutes, respectively, by town, though this interactive map shows average commute times by zip code, offering a more precise look.

Readers will also find more detailed breakdowns, including how much local commuters earn based on their mode of transportation.

Next week, we bring it all together — including previous analyses from earlier this year on school performance and cost of education — for the definitive ranking of the best towns in Connecticut to buy real estate.
