Town Meeting Tuesday Night on 2014-15 Budget Proposal

Annual Town Meeting Tuesday to set referendum on 2.49 percent spending increase and two capital bonds.

Brookfield’s registered voters and property owners are called to the Annual Town Meeting Tuesday night, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Residents will be asked to move the $60.5 million 2014-15 budget to a town wide referendum on Tuesday, May 20, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The proposal includes a 5.73 percent increase in spending on the municipal side — $1,185,150, from $20,705,000 in 2013-14 to $21,891,150 — and a 0.75 percent increase in education spending — increasing $285,470, from $38,295,000 to $38,580,470 year-over-year.

The total budget calls for a 2.49 percent increase in spending ($1,471,620), from an even $59 million approved for the current year to $60,471,620.

Along with the annual budget vote, those in attendance Tuesday will also be asked to approve moving two capital expenditures to referendum: $1,037,000 for equipment and various projects, including renovations to Brookfield Library and paving at several town parking lots; and $2,407,000 to complete the bulk of the work remaining on the Still River Greenway project.

Download a copy of the budget and call to the town meeting above for more on each resolution to be put forward Tuesday night.
