Obama-Romney Presidential Debate: Who Won?

President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney squared off in their second debate. Patch users in Connecticut offered their thoughts on the debate.

CBS called it “the most rancorous debate ever,” as Barack Obama and Mitt Romney stood toe-to-toe describing the other as a liar. The format was in a “town hall” style and the presidential hopefuls directly confronted each other, often after ignoring the question asked by an audience member.

Patch readers in Connecticut participated in an live blog during the debate. Many commenters already had their decision on who to vote for already made, but others weren’t so certain at the start. Here are some of the reactions.

Anonymous:

Obama coming out swinging.

Unbelievable:

How can anyone actually watch this and think a straight answer is in the near future?

Anonymous:

All Mitt needs to do now is stomp his foot LOL (like a 3 year old).

Paul Alexander:

This election is not about Obama/Biden or Romney/Ryan. This election is about US. What kind of people are the majority in this country? What kind of people have the majority become? What kind of people do the majority wish to be in the future?

Anonymous:

Obama is so much better than Mitt, Mitt just can't loose the smirk.

DJSC:

You know it seems you all are looking for the best actor here. How about vote on substance and not fluff. Obama has crushed the US the past four years and time for him to leave.

Jimmy Pursey:

This election is a done deal. The Republican Party never had any intention of winning it, hence the comically inept candidates.

This election cycle was about "positioning"...for 2016. Nothing more...nothing less. America is fine. America is strong. Americans have persevered through ACTUAL hardship. How dare you cheapen our nation's struggles. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Jay:

I'm beginning to think Obama took a dive in the first debate so he could deliver the knockout punch in this one.

Munchie:

If there was a problem, I would much prefer Obama at the helm

Will Wilkin:

As for this election: VOTE SCHMOTE. The 2 parties have only the tiniest differences, both are toxic to the nation, not only shipping our economy overseas but also bankrupting us on permanent multiple undeclared aggressive illegal unconstitutional wars, tearing up the Bill of Rights and Constitution to continue the attempted global military domination on borrowed money.

LiveForFreedom:

The Town Hall format is very different from the panel format. This interactive audience style will be harder for President Obama to attack Romney's talking points.

Klair Waters:

When the President speaks about "Green jobs" he is saying there will be more pay offs to his pals.

NewLondonSource:

Romney is clearly a better orator and his responses are much better organized and conveyed.

IssOffAvi

Romney making up his facts up as he goes along and because all the facts he doesn’t put on the table. He wants to win [but] doesn’t want intelligent conversation.

Vegan:

If I was undecided before I no longer am. Give Obama another 4.

Good snap shot of the trouble that this country is in when the Fourth Estate no longer functions objectively and in an educated fashion: Obama tells an outright LIE about the Administration reaction and handling of the Libyan embassy debacle, and the CNN Moderator protects his outright LIE! THAT is exactly where we are as a country--and it is so sad how much damage we are doing to ourselves and our great heritage that way.... On and on it goes! Joe Biden is a rude embarrassment of a buffoon of a Vice President--despicable. And now the sitting President LYING right into the camera and faces of the American people. Democrats and Liberals will stop at no depth of depravity when it comes to personal morals. They "think" they are above the truth.

Delusional disorder, previously called paranoid disorder, is a type of serious mental illness called a "psychosis" in which a person cannot tell what is real from what is imagined. The main feature of this disorder is the presence of delusions, which are unshakable beliefs in something untrue. People with delusional disorder experience non-bizarre delusions, which involve situations that could occur in real life. These delusions usually involve the misinterpretation of perceptions or experiences. In reality, however, the situations are either not true at all or highly exaggerated. I think we have a delusional president. People with delusional disorder often can continue to socialize and function normally, apart from the subject of their delusion, and generally do not behave in an obviously odd or bizarre manner. This is unlike people with other psychotic disorders, who also might have delusions as a symptom of their disorder. In some cases, however, people with delusional disorder might become so preoccupied with their delusions that their lives are disrupted.

EXACTLY!! It's DELUSIONAL for a President to claim that(tagged onto the END of one annoying little press conference)making a statement in the ABSTRACT starting with a negative (the word "no")--such as: "No act of terror..." is the same as explicitly admitting it WAS an act of terror! Then watching your underlings hem-haw for 3 weeks:"Well, we don't really know it's terror....they could've attacked & killed our people because they watched a video they didn't like...?" (OMG) ;) Next: Dragging it out for WEEKS to get space before a debate O. DESPERATELY has to win... ;) AND: your Secretary of State "falling on her sword" heroically right when you LIE to the American people AGAIN&claim that right from the beginning(when you were actually racing around the country to fundraisers)in a fast, little Rose Garden PC that you "called it an act of terror"--well...?! WELL: Obama is supposedly trained as a lawyer--a lawyer who didn't make it in law actually, only in government/educational arenas--not REAL life. That's "debate club 301" life... But that is a WHOPPER of a lawyer lie & anyone w/half a neuron in their cranium knows there's a HUGE difference semantically, grammatically--any other way--a HUGE difference between saying "THIS act of terror" vs. saying "No act of terror"--saying "no act of terror" is a CAREFULLY crafted speech-writer-way of saying nothing concrete--and making it look like "PREZ" is actually on top of a PROBLEM he just can't handle in electiontime = DELUSIONAL OBAMA

That "live blog" by Patch readers is a joke! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Almost as funny as Candy Crowley being objective or independent. If Americans are ignorant enough not to be able to see a lying lawyer or sort through any number of issues PLAGUING Obama over the past four years--when he did NOTHING--then those same ignorant lawyer-led Americans deserve to have Obama for 4 more years. (As a Patch reader states often--it doesn't matter so much: Democrats built the USS TITANIC and Republicans are on board. Captain Obama just quickens the pace towards the icebergs.... And judging from the bloggers on the debates, they will go down happily sipping their KoolAid... LOL Too funny!

I am always amazed that when a candidate says his policy is to pursue energy independence they also NEVER mention the reality and fact that this will have absolutely NO IMPACT on price. Unless the price for oil that is developed domestically is the same or very close to world market prices we will not see any increase in supply in the U.S. when the oil can be exported for higher prices. The price of oil is set on the world market. I'd rather have a candidate say I am in favor of enhanced exploration as a means to ensure a Stable and Secure source of oil. I wish a candidate had the strength to honestly say 'While domestic energy exploration will NOT LOWER prices we should view the unchanged price for domestic energy sources as a price that includes a 'Supply Guarantee Premium.'

Mr. Obama certainly had a better presence during this debate. It is unfortunate that the debate was so poorly moderated. Both candidates were off topic and failed to answer direct questions. I was very disappointed watching this debate. Who won? The American people lost, that's for sure.
H. Ferguson October 17, 2012 at 05:29 PM
The debate was more of a 2 against 1 "ambush" than a "debate" The moderator repeatedly cut-off Romney and prevented the verbal coup de grâce from being delivered to Mr. "O" by Romney. Obama needs to be propped up by his handlers. Otherwise he'd just fall over from his own lack of competence

I found it very upsetting that President Obama would not listen to Candy Crowley when she called time. He just kept right on talking and most of the time he was going off subject. He reminded me of a disobedient child that bullied an adult. I took a good look at President Obama and he looks as if he has not eaten in days.

A sitting Republican President could never--N - E - V - E - R -- get away with what Obama has gotten away with. Examples: 1. If the embassy debacle had happened to a Republican President during election time it would be in the news headlines EVERY DAY until election time. Week before the election they would be calling for a Special Congressional Investigation to consider a Special Prosecutor. 2. If a republican Secretary of State admitted culpability--heads would be called for! 3. If a Republican President acted like Obama or Biden in a debate they would be RAILED against in the press--but it is ok for Obama or Biden to act like an "alpha male" or a "buffoon" and not really be talked about at all in the media (except FOX, the only TV news that is even watchable--and I do NOT watch TV news; I get my information online or in print) 4. IMAGINE--just imagine how different it would have been if a Republican sitting President had been Commander when Benghazi happened--IMAGINE how different the Moderator's reaction and handling would have been???? LOL HALF THE DEBATE would have been about foreign policy if Romney had been President and Obama the challenger! GUARANTEED!! ;)

Whoppi Goldberg attempting Gotcha to Ann Romney: " As First Lady, if you get the job, it's going to entail a lot of things, one of those things is going to be talking to the mothers whose children are coming home in body bags, you know, from wars. NOW I KNOW, I BELIEVE THAT YOUR RELIGION DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO GO FIGHT." After locking up the long awaited Honey Boo Boo endorsement, President Obama is locking up the rest of the MORON VOTE.

Threats to kill Mitt Romney 'explode' after second debate. After promising rioting and violence, Obama supporters are deluging social media with threats to kill Mr. Romney if he wins the election. Check with Twitchy.com, Google, etc. Contrast the hatefilled comments/tweets/etc. with the frequent assertions that they want 'Civil Discourse'. Toujours Declasse
