Brookfield Republicans Set Sights on Town Hall

Ahead of the Republican Caucus, the party endorses Bill Tinsley for First Selectman and Marty Flynn for Selectman.

The following text is a press release from the Brookfield Republican Town Committee.

The Brookfield Republican Town Committee (BRTC) voted this Tuesday evening to endorse candidates for recommendation to its Caucus scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, at 7:30 pm in the Brookfield High School auditorium. 

William N. (Bill) Tinsley was selected as the committee’s recommendation for First Selectman, and Martin E. (Marty) Flynn was selected to join him as a Selectman candidate.

Accepting the endorsement of the BRTC, Mr. Tinsley said, “Marty Flynn and I will make a great team for all of Brookfield. Our vision for a sustainably vibrant and safe community transcends political boundaries – it is about Brookfield and all of its residents." 

"Our apparent opponents, Mssrs. Lasser and Davidson, have put Brookfield on a tax, spending, debt, and unfunded liabilities trajectory that is unsustainable and harmful to our future quality of life. Marty and I intend to lead the correction."

"We will exercise professional managerial control over our operating expenses. We will prioritize needs over wants with respect to infrastructure development and maintenance. And, we will have a real, executable plan for the appropriate economic development of our commercial zones, especially at the four corners and Federal Road between RT133 and RT7.”

The BRTC is made up of 25 members who were selected by Brookfield Republicans at a previous Caucus held in March of 2012. The committee also has 10 alternate members. 

Mr. Tinsley (62) is a retired business executive. He has held senior executive roles with Duracell, Thomas & Betts, and Chesapeake Corp. He also owned and operated (2002-2010) with his family, a local small business, and has worked as a management consultant in the consumer package goods, pharmaceutical, and supply chain services industries.

Bill was twice-elected to the Brookfield Board of Finance and served as its Chairman for the last two years of his tenure (2003 – 2011), He is also a former member of the Brookfield Board of Education (1995-1999) and served as its Vice Chairman. 

Bill has an MBA degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business; and, a BA from the University of the South.  Bill has also had prior volunteer roles as a soccer coach, with the United Way of Northern Fairfield, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of CT, and the National Minority Supplier Development Council.

Bill has been a Brookfield resident since 1987 and his wife Mary is a Brookfield native. They are members of St. Marguerite’s Parish. They are the parents of five — four of which survive their brother Richard Bryan Tinsley, who passed away in 2010.

Mr. Flynn (52) is the owner of Martin Flynn Plumbing LLC, which he operates with his son Sean.

He is currently chairman of the BRTC and has previously served as its vacancy committee chairman. Marty has also chaired the Brookfield Zoning Board of Appeals for the past nine years, and has previously served on the Brookfield Water Pollution Control Authority (a.k.a. the sewer commission) for eight years – the last two years as its chairman.  

Over the past several years, Marty has become known as “Mr. Moderator” — the result of his steady-handed moderation of many town meetings. 

Marty has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Webster University, which included studying abroad in the Netherlands, as well as completing four years of Plumbing Apprenticeship program in the State of NY and holds a Connecticut Master Plumbers License (P1) and Heating License (S7). Marty is also a Justice of the Peace for the Town of Brookfield.

Marty and his wife Carol have been Brookfield residents since 1997. They are members of St. Joseph’s Parish. Carol has been with IBM for more than 29 years, and has been active with American Red Cross and with American Cancer Society Relay for Life. 

Their son Sean, an Eagle Scout, is a graduate of Brookfield High, and is a rising senior at Western CT State University. Daughter Samantha graduated from Brookfield High School this year, and will enter the School of Nursing at Marywood University, Scranton, PA.
