Brookfield Paving Project Spends $9.5M in First Four Years

About $500,000 left on $10 million repaving and recapture project.

With the 2013 paving season coming to a close, the Department of Public Works has released a roundup of statistics from this year, as well as for all four years of the five-year project.

The paving project has spent approximately $9.5 million of the $10 million approved by voters at referendum in 2010 and has brought the town’s overall Pavement Condition Index (PCI) from 39 to 66.7.

According to Town Engineer Ralph Tedesco, the town has reconstructed 35.9 miles of road ($7.8 million) and preserved 20.7 miles ($1.7 million) at an average cost per mile of $167,745.

Over the course of the project, the town has paved 56.6 of approximately 100 miles of paved road in Brookfield’s highway system, hitting 93 of 243 streets.

Crews worked on 23 streets in 2013.

During the past year, the town reconstructed 5.6 miles ($1.67 million) and preserved 2.6 ($168,156) at an average cost of $224,696 per mile.

Tedesco said a full updated list of ratings for each Brookfield road will be available later this fall.
