Brookfield Democrats Nominate November Slate

Brookfield Democrats held their caucus to nominate candidates for municipal offices Tuesday night, enthusiastically and unanimously endorsed the recommendations of the Democratic Town Committee (DTC).

“It’s not about party, its about community,” DTC Chairman Dan Smolnik said, noting the slate, lead by Howard Lasser for First Selectman and Bill Davidson running for Selectman, includes a mix of Democrats and Unaffiliated voters.

Current Selectman and First Selectman nominee Howard Lasser addressing the caucus reiterated many of the accomplishments of the past three years, among them being:

  • Replacement of Kid’s Kingdom
  • Completed major improvements to the town’s roads
  • Made the town more receptive to attract and retain businesses
  • Improved the health and safety of residents by expanding public water lines and fire protection
  • Streamlined management practices in town government to save hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars
  • Restored full finding to the town pension plan
  • Secured over $2 million in grants to support such projects as Kid’s Kingdom, the Still River Greenway, and the revitalization of the Town Beach
  • Completed the plan for the development of the Town Center district — implementation of this plan has already begun

“All of this was accomplished while reducing the town’s debt costs, increasing our fund balance and keeping tax increases to the lowest rate in the last 20 years,” Lasser said.

“Howard and I have a long history of working together for the good of the town,” First Selectman Bill Davidson remarked. “Along with the rest of the slate, we will continue to build on the progress of the past three years.”
