16 Lowest Tax Bills in Connecticut

Counting down the lowest median tax bills in the state.

We've looked at the highest and lowest mill rates in the state, as well as the highest median tax bills (mill rates applied to median home values) for better context. This week we wrap up the series with the lowest median taxes in Connecticut.

The list shows the 16 towns with the least taxes paid by an average homeowner this year, calculated by applying the mill rate to the median home value for each town, as reported by Zillow.

(As pointed out by a reader last week, tax bills are calculated using assessed value, or 70 percent of appraisal. The order is unchanged but this week we've used assessed value for a more accurate look at tax bills.)

Some of the lowest mill rates in the state made the list — including three towns below 15 — though most were in the 20s.

Median home values covered a range of $99,900 in Canton (No. 2) to $383,300 in Salisbury (No. 7).

Brookfield came in at No. 134 (lowest to highest) on the list, with a median home value of $344,600 and a median tax bill of $6,126.99.

Granby just misses but not for long. Just can't figure why State Line Oil and Propane is in the top ten. The BLIGHT at State Line Oil would get anyone else fined, especially if taxes aren't being pain on the eye sore of 4 Continentals and 1 BMW, good start of a Junkyard!

Check your assessments and go to town hall its not rocket science Brookfield ios one of the few towns that I know that actually lowered the rate based on valuation. My other home went up, down South, even though the valuation went down.
