State Police Double Last Year's Fourth of July Tickets

The number of DUI arrests and speeding tickets issued was up from 2012, though accident were down.

Stepped up enforcement efforts on Connecticut's roadways are reaping results for state police, who issued twice as many speeding tickets as they did during the same period last year.

The campaign, which kicked off at 12:01 a.m. on July 3, surpassed last year's stats with regard to DUI arrests and speeding tickets.

As of the morning of July 7, Connecticut State Police reported the following:

  • Total Accidents: 297
  • Accidents with Injury: 43
  • Fatal Accidents: 0
  • DUI Arrests: 59
  • Speeding Tickets: 2,171
  • Seatbelt Tickets: 451
  • Other Moving Violations (i.e. cell phone, unsafe lane change, following too close etc.): 4,883

By way of comparison, in 2012, state police reported the following stats:
  • Total Accidents: 323
  • DUI Arrest: 45
  • Speeding Tickets: 1,059

"State Troopers will continue to enforce all motor vehicle laws as the summer continues," according to a release from state police. "If you see a suspected drunk driver, that is an emergency, call 911."
