New Jersey Man Arrested for Storing Child Pornography in Brookfield

Man extradited from New Jersey to face charges of possession of child pornography.

New Jersey police picked up Joseph Merola, 54, of Jackson Mill Road, Freehold, NJ, on Sept. 5 on a warrant out of Brookfield for possession of child pornography.

The warrant was the result of an investigation that began in February 2013 and continued through August, according to Brookfield police.

Brookfield officer Michael O’Brien told Hamlet Hub reporter Michelle Leo that Merola previously rented a storage unit in Brookfield. The contents of the unit were sold off last winter, which is when the evidence leading to his arrest was discovered.

Merola waived extradition and was picked up in New Jersey by Brookfield detectives on Sept. 10. He was brought back to Brookfield and served with the arrest warrant on charges of possessing child pornography.

Merola was arraigned on Sept. 11 and held on $100,000 bond until his next court date, set for Oct. 10.
