Man Found Asleep After Driving Into Mailbox

Brookfield police responded to an accident on Federal Road in the early morning hours of Aug. 6 and discovered the driver asleep in his car.

At 2:21 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident called in by an uninvolved party.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Darwin Tamayo, 28, of Bates Place, Danbury, sleeping in his vehicle after having struck mailboxes in front of 433 Federal Road.

Officers administered standardized field sobriety tests and Tamayo was taken into custody based on his performance.

He was later released after posting $500 bond with a court date set for Aug. 16.
