Brookfield firefighters responded to the scene of a structure fire at Brook Center, 132 Federal Road, across from Shop Rite, at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Photos from the scene show heavy smoke and flames can be seen coming from the building.

Volunteers from the Brookfield and Candlewood fire companies responded and were able to get the fire under control by noon.

The small shopping center includes a Citibank branch, an Army recruiting center and specialty automotive shop ENI Motorsports.

No word yet on any potential injuries or the extent of the damage.

This post will be updated with more information as it becomes available.

Who ever did this story failed to mention the FABULOUS JOB THE DANBURY FIRE DEPT. did when I walked out of Shop-Rite I saw the smoke and called 911 it rang the Danbury dispatch, I told them about the fire and within 3 min. you saw Danbury Fire personal and trucks responding, they hooked up to the fire hydrant and dropped the water line, What a professional bunch of guys doing what they do best. Brookfield is a volunteer co. and waiting for them took longer to respond. There were so many trucks from Danbury, Brookfield parked along the road. THANK YOU DANBURY FOR YOUR QUICK RESPONSE. YOU DID A OUTSTANDING JOB!!

Mr or Mrs faceless Taxpayer Our volunteers were cutting a gentleman out of his vehicle on Obtuse Hill Rd that struck a tree. A call that came in moments before the structure fire. Thanks for the effort in making the 911 call. Maybe you can take charge and get us a paid company. Then you can call yourself "Higher Taxpayer". Or, maybe you can volunteer like so many others do in our community. Until then...great job by all yesterday!

Danbury has a great department and they always do a good job. Just making sure there wasn't an attempt to compare a professional department's response time to a volunteer department's response time. One crew is together and gets up off the couch, stops cooking the chili, and gravitates 50 feet to their piece of apparatus (lol sorry DFD, you know I love ya!), and the other crew is scattered across the town working in offices, building houses, fixing plumbing issues etc...

Wasn't comparing that at all , that's like night and day.I was a captain on a fire dept. for many years, (I know what you guys and ladies go thru) Just give Danbury a little credit for showing up its that simple!
