Burning Rubber Leads to Arrest on Gun Charge

Danbury man arrested for burning out at stoplight and having a handgun in the vehicle.

Brookfield officers pulled over a Danbury man on Dec. 12 for attempting to “burn-out” at a stoplight on Federal Road and discovered an illegal 45-caliber handgun in the car.

According to police, officers observed Robert Sides, 28, of Tom Thumb Lane, Danbury, performing a “burn-out” on Federal Road shortly after 1 a.m. Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop and determined that Sides appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

While speaking with Sides, he opened a center console of his vehicle and officers saw a 45-caliber Ruger handgun. According to police, Sides does not have a permit to carry a weapon.

Officers secured the weapon and Sides was placed under arrest.

He is charged with unsafe movement of a stopped, standing or parked vehicle, operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

He was released on $500 bond with a court date set for Dec. 24.
