Brookfield Resident Drives Across Church Lawn, Ditches Car

Suspected driver arrested at home, miles from the scene.

Brookfield Police arrested 23-year-old Justin McCurdy, of Brookfield, in the early morning hour of September 12 after he allegedly drove his car down the hill in front of , at the intersection of Federal and Junction Road, and ditched his vehicle at 26 Junction Road, the entrance to Ledgewood Condominiums.

According to police reports, McCurdy’s vehicle struck a guardrail while traveling north on Federal Road and he swerved onto the church lawn.

Tire tracks still evident on Thursday showed that the vehicle turned right onto the lawn at the top of the hill, just after the First Assembly of God sign, before the intersection. The tracks lead down the hill, veering to the left to narrowly avoid a tree and turning onto Junction Road approximately 90 yards down, just before the mailboxes at the entrance to the church driveway.

After discovering the unoccupied vehicle, police found McCurdy at his home on Hearthstone Drive, more than 2 miles away, at around 12:10 a.m. He was placed under arrest and charged with failure to drive in the proper lane, evading responsibility while operating a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license and improper use of marker, registration or license.

He was arraigned in Danbury Superior Court later that day.

Good Lord, Steve - those four words are becoming your mantra. If you dislike Brookfield so much, why do you stay here? And do you really think we are so unique, that things like this don't happen in other towns? Lighten up!!!
