Brookfield Man Charged on 21 Counts of Forging US Currency

Police find evidence of counterfeit bill manufacturing during joint investigation with Secret Service and Seymour police.

Brookfield resident Drew Swanson, 56, turned himself in to Brookfield police Thursday afternoon after a joint investigation by local police and the U.S. Secret Service into the manufacturing and passing of counterfeit bills.

Swanson turned himself in at 12:35 p.m. on Nov. 14 on warrants for forgery and larceny as part of an investigation by Seymour and Brookfield police and the U.S. Secret Service.

According to police, Seymour Police Department and the Secret Service began an investigation in February of this year after Swanson was caught allegedly trying to pass counterfeit money.

As part of the investigation, Brookfield and Seymour detectives and Secret Service agents served a search and seizure warrant on Swanson’s Silvermine Road home in March and discovered evidence of counterfeiting.

Brookfield Maj. Jay Purcell declined to comment at this time on what specific evidence was recovered, however, “We recorded evidence that the offense was committed in Brookfield,” namely the production of illegal currency.

Evidence discovered in Swanson’s home led to him being charged with 21 counts of forgery in the first degree and 21 counts of larceny in the sixth degree, as well as existing charges from the original arrest.

Swanson was released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Nov. 26.
