A vignette and quote from our newly elected Selectman from a 1997 article in the NYTimes:

Last spring, the school board voted 5-2 to continue the safe-zone program. William Tinsley voted against the measure, and he has signed the latest petition.

''I think it's very bad public policy to set aside a special area for anyone who needs help,'' he said. Mr. Tinsley said he believes students confused about their sexuality should get professional help to change their behavior.

''You can't change the way people are born,'' he said. ''You can help them change their behavior in such a way to prevent them from putting their health and life at risk.''
