A serious proposal for the next legistlative session

Here's serious proposal for the next legislative session that begins next month.

Property taxes are the most serious issue facing Connecticut. People can argue that it's not and they are welcome to. Property taxes affect the old, the poor, the middle class more than any other tax. Why? Because it ignores their ability to pay. Answering "If they can't afford the taxes they should move out of Connecticut" isn't a realistic solution, although it is a solution.

Instead the state should offer an income tax credit (not deduction) for taxes paid - on a sliding scale of income. No taxes paid, no credit. Taxes paid give them a dollar for dollar credit after a certain taxable income.

The state them takes on the onerous burden it fails to address with it's education distribution formula which addresses whole towns, but not the individuals in each town.

Getting it down to that level presents an opportunity for those who can not afford the taxes to at least support the system (public education) for which they are being raised.
