WWII Vet, Former Brookfield Fire Chief Robert Schullery, 96
Active Brookfield resident of over 60 years passed away Friday.

Robert C. Schullery passed away peacefully on Oct.11, 2013 at Danbury Hospital. He was born in Danbury, CT on Sept. 29, 1917, the son of Robert and Ludmilla (Smigala) Schullery.
He attended Danbury High School, joined the Seabees during World War II, and later the regular Navy, serving on a minesweeper, the USS Eager.
He and his wife Agnes (who predeceased him in 2011) were married for 62 years and resided in Brookfield, where he helped to build his home 60 years ago.
He was an avid fisherman in his Boston Whaler, on Candlewood Lake or Long Island Sound.
“Bob” ran his own plumbing and heating business for 40 years, which was a trade he perfected starting as an apprentice at the former Lumb and Temple plumbing company.
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Life Member of Elks Lodge No.120, in 1949 a charter member of the South Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department and served three years as Chief of Center Company Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a CT State District Fire Warden for 35 years, a member of the building committee for the Huckleberry Hill School, Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 5, member of the police commission of Brookfield, and was appointed to the Brookfield police advisory board in 1967 to establish a police department.
He was also a member of VFW Post No. 10201.
He is survived by his son, Robert T. Schullery and his wife, Susan, of Kent CT; his grandchildren, Evan R. Schullery, Dr. Matthew T. Schullery and his wife Dr. Amy Schullery, and his great granddaughter, Lydia, all living in PA; and several cousins.
His 17-year-old cat, Walter, has relocated to Kent.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
