Longtime Brookfield Politico, Volunteer Chip Brown, 72

George “Chip” Brown, Jr., of Brookfield, husband of Diane (Casey) Brown, died on Saturday, March 8 at Danbury Hospital, with his family by his side. He was 72 years old.

Chip was born on July 12, 1941 in Albany N.Y. the son of the late George R. and Anita G. Brown. He graduated from the University School in Bridgeport and attended Iowa State University.

Having been a resident of Brookfield since 1954, Chip was very active in local politics throughout his life. As a young man he contributed his time to many state and local campaigns. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Charter Revision Committee and the Democratic Town Committee.

Most notably he was the Chairman of the Municipal Building Committee for three decades, where he oversaw projects such as the town hall, police station and several school additions.

He was a dedicated member and past president of the Brookfield Lions Club and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award and a Connecticut Knight of the Blind. He also volunteered his time to many other and clubs and events.

He was vice president of Casey Fuel, a family company where he worked for 30 years. Upon retiring he pursued his passion for carpentry. His greatest joy though was being around his family and friends. He was a skilled craftsman, artist and historian.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Diane, he is survived by his two sons, Ted of Brookfield and Michael and his wife Pam, of Brookfield; his three grandchildren Anna, Rachel and Joseph. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kathryn Brown-Coffey of Appleton ME and Sara Brown Laughlin and her husband Timothy of New Milford; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Thursday between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
