Avid Gardener, Storyteller Thomas Montague, 80

Thomas J. Montague, 80, of Brookfield, beloved husband of the late Patricia (Wright) Montague, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Oct. 10. He was born in Wilmington, DE on April 2, 1933, son of the late Thomas J., Sr. and Anna (McGlinchy) Montague.

He was a graduate of Salesianum High School, Wilmington, DE, class of 1951. He was also a graduate of LaSalle University and received his MBA from Western New England University. He was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Church Brookfield.

Mr. Montague worked in human resources for Risdon Corp for more than 25 years. He was an avid gardener and later in life discovered his talent for baking zucchini bread.

He was happiest when spending time with his children and grandchildren or vacationing at his home at Surfside Beach, SC.

He will be remembered for his story telling, and love of traveling to tour college campuses across the country.

He will be sadly missed by his 10 children, Lynn Alfes and her husband, Jay of Jupiter Fl, Kathy Riley and her husband, Fran of Myrtle Beach, SC, Patti Paravati and her husband, Joe of Brookfield, Mary Kate Tannone and her husband, Tom of New Milford, Joseph and his wife, Patti of Palm Coast, FL, Michael and his wife, Rosemary of Garner, NC, Kevin of Surfside, SC, Brian and his wife, Antoinette of New Milford, Stephen of New Fairfield, and Mark and his wife, Kim of Woodland Park, CO; and his 25 cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jeanne Markowski of Dover, DE, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 14 between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
