Anna M. Fontana, age 62

July 19, 1949 — September 23, 2011

Anna M. Fontana, age 62, died Friday, September 23, 2011 at her home in Brookfield. She was born on July 19, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY.

She graduated from Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn, after which she received both a B.A. from Fordham University in the Bronx and a M.S. from the University of New Haven. She lived in both Putnam Valley, NY and New Milford for many years before moving to Brookfield. Having previously worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Christie's auction house in New York, she decided on a second career as a teacher, and spent well over a decade teaching children between second and eighth grades at Cider Mill School in Wilton and Immanuel Lutheran School in Danbury.

Anna is survived by her parents, Paul and Rose Fontana of Venice, FL, her two sons, Daniel J. McCallion of Brookfield and Christopher J. McCallion of Brooklyn, her sister Mary Keating of Chatham, NJ, her brothers Joseph Fontana of Napa, CA and Paul Fontana of Brooklyn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Gregory James McCallion. Her family and friends remember her as a dedicated teacher, an exceptional artist and photographer, and a wonderful mother, daughter, sister and friend.

Funeral Information

Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 30 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury. Interment will take place Saturday, October 1 at 11 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Cemetery in Putnam Valley, NY.
