Troop 8 at Camp Sequassen

Boy Scout Troop 8 spends the week at Summer Camp.

My troop, troop 8, recently attended a Boy Scout Summer Camp at Camp Sequassen in New Hartford this summer. We spend a whole week there in tents or lean-tos (depending which campsite we get). We attend merit badge classes with specially trained counselors through the whole week. This was my third year there, but we had a lot of newer scouts with us who got to experience a lot of new things like rifle shooting, archery, shotgun shooting, throwing knives, and building your own shelter to sleep in.

Camp Sequassen also has its own waterfront complete with rowboats, motorboats, sailboats, canoes, kayaks, and three swimming areas. We also got to go on the Hessian Hike, which is a hike out into the woods where we meet some campers from Camp Workomen (a neighboring camp) around a campfire. We are told that this was the site of a Hessian village many years ago, during the Revolutionary War. Then, some of our counselors dictate some strange happenings that went on around the area.

Another awesome thing about Camp Sequassen is that we are almost entirely independent for the whole week! We attend merit badge classes during the day, with a break for lunch, without any of our troop leaders with us.

Going to Camp Sequassen again was a lot of fun and I hope our whole troop will attend next year!
