Pound Ridge

Troop 8 travels to Pound Ridge in New York.

Two weeks ago on March 17, Brookfield Boy Scout Troop 8 left for the Pound Ridge campground in New York state. The Pound Ridge campout is one of few trips where the troop does not need to set up tents, as there are lean-tos at the site.

At the campground, the troop set up sleeping bags inside of the lean-tos and set off to explore the site. The troop walked through the park to an old tree that had been struck by lightning and fallen over. Every year, the troop has tons of fun lounging around and playing on that tree. Later in the day, the troop headed over to a river that runs through the site. There, the troop had a great time watching trout swim by, catching crayfish, and wading in the cold, clear waters. After the scouts returned to the lean-tos, they spent the rest of the night looking at constellations and running around in the dark until lights out at 11:00.

The next day, the troop had many younger scouts train how to use a knife, saw, and axe correctly, allowing them to earn the Totin' Chit. This means they are allowed to use a knife. Overall, this trip was a blast, and any newcomers are welcome to the troop who want to experience a camp out like this one.
