Want to run a 5K with your dog? The Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will hold its 1st annual Run Your Tail Off 5K on Sunday, April 28 at 9 a.m.

The Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will hold its 1st annual Run Your Tail Off 5K on Sunday, April 28th at 9 a.m. taking place on the grounds of The Matrix Corporate Center on 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury. Bib pick up starts at 8:30 a.m., the day of the race.

What makes this 5K unique is that runners can bring their dogs to participate as well! Registration is $30 for Adults and an extra $5 to participate with your pooch. Walkers and runners with baby strollers are also encouraged to join! In addition, there will be a One Mile Fun Run for kids which is $15. Human participants will receive an event T-shirt while canine runners will be given a special bandana. Drink and food will be provided at the start and end of the race. Water will also be available along the route. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest male runner, fastest female runner and fastest person/dog combo! All proceeds will go to help the mission of Danbury Animal Welfare Society.

The goal of this 5K is to raise funds to save lives and operate the shelter. Last year DAWS provided medical care to over 1,200 animals and helped over 730 dogs and cats find their forever homes. In addition to adoptions, DAWS also aids the community through various programs such as low-cost spay/neuter services as well as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), a program that spays and neuters feral cats and manages feral cat colonies that exist in our community.
