I'm toying with the idea of becoming a vegetarian. A dear friend has recently gone vegan and has made it clear that my consumption of animal products is not to her taste. (lol.pun aside.) She has shown me the horrific pictures and videos of the agony most farm animals endure. Chicks may have their beaks cut to prevent them from hurting each other while confined in crowded enclosures. Cows may have their throats slit while hanging from meat hooks...stunned, but alive. I have sighted but a few atrocities as these graphics are not for the weak of stomach.
My daughter-in-law and her family are vegetarians. They have not pushed their idealizations on me, but have served scrumptious meals that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Of course there is a difference between a Vegetarian and a Vegan. I believe that the first doesn't eat any meat and that the second doesn't eat anything from the animal group. Tofu seems to be a nutritious substitute in either case, but I have yet to acquire a liking for that particular palate.
Yes, I love and may very well miss, spar-ribs and fried chicken and Veal Parmesan. Heaven help me, I even enjoy a hot dog from a vendor. I do like beans, grains, fruit and vegetables. It seems that more preparation time is in the offing if I make this change. After all, it's quite easy to 'nuke' a Swanson Frozen Meal. Am I really that lazy or ever that hungry? For the sake of preventing some of the abuse to 'all creatures great and small,' shouldn't I resolve right now to take the necessary steps...to do the right thing?
Starting tomorrow I am becoming a vegetarian...maybe.
Tonight I feel like eating a PorkChickenMacBurger.
