STRESS. Webster says that one definition is, 'physical, mental, or emotional tension.' Now, I'm not a Doctor of any type...no MD.s, PhD.s, ED.s or the like. No 'drrrr' in front of my name. However, in this day and age, most people are proficient in the 'ology' of stress, don't ya think? Oh, a myriad of things can be stress factors and there are myriad ways for that stress to manifest itself. I took a straw poll and acquired the following:
Stress can CAUSE
- too little sleep
- irritability
- too much sleep
- stomach aches
- increased appetite
- headaches
- decreased appetite
- eye tics
- and an obsessive need to yell, "Leave Me Alone!!!!"
There are healthy ways to deal with stress and more than enough unhealthy ways. I know folks who run each day, do yoga, and relaxation exercises. The body's innards may benefit from these experiences, but the psyche SEEMS to do better with more overt techniques;
Stress Reliever-ers:
- kicking something
- karate-ING something
- throwing something
- crying
- cursing
- nail biting
- and obsessively yelling, "Leave Me Alone!!!!"
Being left alone can be quite an achievement. What if you worked at the DMV, had 4.6 children and 2.8 EXs? How about being a nursery school teacher who lives in a commune? Of course, these are difficult situations in which to be alone. (I read about a guy who had a goal of finding a spot on this planet where there is no noise whatsoever. I'm pretty sure he didn't achieve it). SOLITUDE. Websters says that one definition is, 'a secluded or lonely place.' LONELY? Now that's not good. Which leaves us with only one answer...
S'MORES.
