I jumped sideways and landed on my back on a grassy surface. The two cars collided in front of me, and I realized that I had come awfully close, too close, to being a memory. Walking to the mailbox shouldn't entail this amount of risk. Two women emerged from these rather crumpled vehicles. Neither were injured, and both admitted to have been using their cell phones.
My first thoughts were private "ahem," and then I had some curious ones-"Women Drivers"..."Dumb Blondes." Now, why in the world, as a blonde woman, would those innuendos cross my mind? Are we so indoctrinated with these denigrating figures of speech? We hear these things stated our whole lives, so it follows that we could come to believe that there is validity to them.
Now, I know some extremely bright blonde women and some excellent female drivers. Conversely, I know of some men that don't understand "why the chicken crossed the road." My own car was totaled by a male driver. Statistically, the worst drivers are male teens and I don't believe that I.Q.s have a hair color.
After all, "Who's on first????"
