Town Election Season Preparation

What the Brookfield LWV is doing to offer timely information about the November Election so voters can be better informed.

The Brookfield League of Women Voters (LWV) is off to a busy start preparing a Voters’ Guide for the upcoming town election and planning a Selectman Debate for November 2. The purpose of the League, which is a nonpartisan political organization, is to educate voters so that they will make informed decisions at the polls. The Voters’ Guide will provide complete profiles on each candidate to achieve that purpose. The League never endorses parties or candidates.

On August 16, each of the candidates for First Selectman and Selectman positions was mailed an invitation to participate in the debate on November 2. As of the deadline Bill Davidson and Howard Lasser have indicated that they are eager to appear before the community to state their platform and answer questions. There has been no response from either Steve O’Reilly or George Walker. Therefore, we will proceed with our November 2 Selectman Debate plans according to League of Women Voters’ guidelines for an Empty Chair Debate until the other candidates respond.

We invite the entire community to this informative evening at The Brookfield Library on November 2 at 7:30 p.m. The Voters’ Guide will be accessible on the websites of the Brookfield Patch www.brookfieldpatch.com, the League of Women Voters and The Brookfield Government www.brookfieldct.gov.
