Set Smart Fitness Resolutions This New Year

With us approaching the New Year, there are some important things that you need to keep in mind regarding your resolutions.  Far too many people start feeling overly ambitious at the first of January and think that they’re going to start on some extravagant plan, only to find themselves falling right off the bandwagon two weeks into the month.

How can you make sure that this doesn’t happen to you? What’s the fastest way for you to see success with your resolution this year?

Let’s go over some important tips that you should know.

Be Realistic

Be as realistic as possible with your goal setting.  For example, those that have never stepped foot in a gym before shouldn't choose a workout program that requires them to attend the gym 6 days per week. Chances are they just won’t stick with it.

Be realistic with where you're at and what you can, in fact, accomplish. Remember that you can always increase the intensity of the goals you set as you go along.

Set One Or Two Smaller Goals

Another smart thing to do as you prepare for the New Year is to set one or two smaller goals rather than one very large longer term goal.

When you have two different goals set, this can help you stay focused and on track because if one goal isn’t moving along as you had hoped, you can simply shift the focus on to the other goal. This way, you’ll still feel relatively accomplished. It's always good to see that you are making progress in the right direction.

When you set shorter term goals, you’re more likely to sustain motivation to achieve them because they aren’t so far off in the distance, making them harder to envision the accomplishment.

Seek Out Proper Resources

Finally, the last vital thing that you'll want to do as you set your New Year’s resolutions for the coming year is to make sure that you seek out proper resources for doing so. It’s imperative that you have the help and support you need. For those looking to transform their bodies, this may mean hiring a fitness trainer, a nutritionist, or even seeing a counselor if emotional eating is something that you really struggle with.

The more help you have on your side, the more likely you are to take the right steps to realize success and be less likely to fall off the program when times are hard.

That's it! Three  fast and easy steps to take to make sure that you reach your resolutions in 2014.
