Tails of Courage was founded by a survivor of the World Trade Center attack.  The President of TOC was working on the 52nd floor of One World Trade Center when the first plane hit, and escaped by walking down all 52 flights.  The horrors she witnessed that day, are burned into her memory.  There were many service and rescue dogs that went to work at Ground Zero over those next few weeks.  In honor of all of those brave and dedicated canines, Tails of Courage was founded as a way to rescue dogs and puppies, much as they tried to rescue humans after 9/11.

Tails of Courage is a national non-profit organization committed to helping abused, abandoned and neglected dogs and puppies as well as our communities.  TOC is entirely funded by donations and depends on volunteers.  Founded in 2009, the mission of the organization is to help as much as possible with various programs within the communities they serve.  At present, Tails of Courage has Chapters in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia with California and Massachusetts on the horizon!  Programs include Run Your Race, Heroic Paws, Tails for Tots, Traveling Tails of Courage to name a few.  TOC may be the only animal rescue in the State of Connecticut allowing and even encouraging children under the age of 18 to volunteer with the animals.  All children, regardless of age, may volunteer with Tails of Courage.  Children under 13 must have an adult accompany them.  TOC has partnered with local schools for children to obtain their community service, and most importantly to learn about the care and nurture of our animals.  Families volunteer together.

Tails of Courage started out small in 2009, with all dogs and puppies housed in foster homes.  Over the years, Tails of Courage was fortunate to rent kennel space from Passage East kennels in Wilton, and then rent the entire kennel space located at One Pembroke Road, Danbury, CT.  The kennel is open every day, 7 days per week from 9:30 to 5:30.  There is much needed work at the kennel where TOC is renting now.  TOC cannot afford to buy its current kennel location.  But, TOC has found a reasonably-priced kennel rescue location and has entered into negotiations to purchase a place of its very own in Danbury, CT.

TOC must leave their current kennel facility by May 31st and is seeking donations towards the purchase of the new location.  Please consider helping Tails of Courage continue this selfless mission; to speak for those less fortunate creatures that do not have a voice of their own.  TOC could not survive without the dedication of all the incredible volunteers, transport drivers, rescue workers and adopters.  “Like” TOC at www.facebook.com/tailsofcourage.  If all the dogs and puppies were to be adopted this Saturday, TOC would have almost enough money to sign the contract for the purchase of the new facility.
