Christmas Tree & Wreath Sale /Boy Scout Troop 8

Christmas Tree & Wreath Sale / support Boy Scout Troop 8

This annual event is a fund raiser for the troop to support its efforts to provide meaningful scouting experiences to every scout regardless of their income or personal circumstances. We will also be holding a food drive for the Brookfield Food Pantry. Please drop off your cans!Trees ranging in height from 5-10 feet will be loaded in your car or tied to your roof by members of the troop and their leaders. The wreaths are fresh and decorated with ribbons. "Scouting is an opportunity for boys unlike any they can get in school, through sports, or even within the structure of their families," says Scoutmaster Jonathan Gibney of Brookfield. "We provide training in citizenship, civil responsibility, personal management, and community service. This year, we even worked directly with the Brookfield Police Department's Emergency Management Team so that our boys are trained and ready to serve our community in a crisis. We are very proud of the work we do. We rely heavily on fund raisers like our tree sale to keep us going." Sixteen year old scout Jesse Bartko comments, "I like the tree sale because scouting is really important to me, but I know my parents have to spend money for me to be in scouts. The tree sale gives me a chance to do my share and take on some of the responsibility for paying for it."

Troop 8 provides scout and leader volunteers for a number of local events including the Mother's Day Run, Relay for Life, Lake Lillanonah Clean Up Day, and the Candlewood Canoe and Kayak Race. The Scouts will be camped out on the lawn of the church overnight during the sale and will be using the time to clean up the grounds of the church and the surrounding area.
