Malloy Meets with Biden to Talk Gun Control

'We had a frank discussion about mental health and gun control,' says Connecticut's governor.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy traveled to the White House Friday to speak with Vice President Joe Biden about gun control on the same day a post-Newtown legislative task force held its first meeting, the Hartford Courant reports.

"We had a frank discussion about mental health and gun control," Malloy told the newspaper about his 75-minute talk with Biden.

The meeting comes two days after President Barack Obama signed a proposal to Congress to strengthen the country's gun laws, including enforcing background checks and renewing a ban on military-grade assault rifles.

Malloy told the Courant that federal legislation on gun control must be thorough, despite potential opposition from groups like the National Rifle Association.
