Racing Day at the Pinewood Derby

Derby winners!
Derby winners!
Cub Scout Pack 135 participated in the Pinewood Derby, held at Prince of Peace Preschool auditorium, on January 26. The derby showcased cub scouts skills such as craftsmanship, while the boys had fun making cool race cars. Sixty-two scout race cars passed rigorous inspection the night before, and a dozen parent/siblings joined in on the race with their own official Pinewood race cars.

The cub scouts first raced within their dens, with the top three cars in each den making it to the champion races for overall Pack first, second and third winners, along with votes for the most original car and car that portrays the best scout spirit. Committee Chairman Rob Janofsky said, “What a great day of racing we had, and all the scouts’ cars came out great –- they should be proud!”

Rob adds, “We couldn't have done this without all the parents who helped with setup, weigh-in and helping during the races. Chris Wallin was a great help with setting up the track, John Varda with the software part of it, and Mike Brooks doing what he always does and going the extra mile in making those Pinewood Derby neckerchief slides.”
