Siemens Layoffs Will Affect 300 Brookfield Jobs

Brookfield site will be closed and consolidated as part of 15,000 layoffs expected worldwide.

With word that German-based company Siemens will be laying off some 15,000 employees over the next year comes news that the Brookfield manufacturing center will be closing its doors and consolidating with another branch.

According to a company spokesman, most of the 300 employees at the Brookfield location will be included in the layoffs.

Public Relations Manager Susan Drew confirmed Monday that the Brookfield site will be closed down in three phases, with the first beginning in late 2014 and the third scheduled to finish by the end of 2016.

The Silvermine Road location opened as a manufacturing facility in 1999 under Dade Behring. The site was purchased by Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in 2007.

The factory’s operations — manufacturing instruments used in medical labs — will be consolidated with the company’s Flanders, N.J. branch, which currently employs approximately 450 people.

“Brookfield employees will be offered separation and outplacement benefits, as well as the opportunity to apply for other positions within the Siemens organization, including positions in Flanders,” Drew said, adding that the “decision was made to further strengthen our processes, increase productivity and better serve our customers.”

The 15,000 projected layoffs represents some 4 percent of the company’s 370,000 employees worldwide, according to USA Today.
