Helping to Preserve the Ultimate Symbol of Freedom’s Freedom

I have always been in sheer awe of the grandeur of the Bald Eagle. So when asked if I would examine a Bald Eagle that was recovering with rehabilitators at FFF Wildlife Center, I eagerly agreed.  This was a six-month-old female that was found in the water, sick and emaciated.

She has come quite a long way, as you can see, with the tireless work of her rehabilitation caregiver. Currently she is being treated and evaluated for loss of vision in her right eye. This is most likely due to a retinal detachment that has been identified by our specialized ophthalmology service. This condition makes it very hard for her to have her precise binocular vision. Lack of depth perception and loss of vision can make survival in the wild very challenging for these magnificent ultimate birds of prey if they are unable to fish to catch their food.

Our very special Bald Eagle patient will continue to receive follow-up care at our hospital.
