BHS Dance Team Takes Home Two Wins

The Brookfield High School Dance Team won first place in two competitions.

The has two more trophies to add to their case.  The team has held the title of State Champs for the last three years and has won again on this year at the Connecticut High School Dance Team Championships, held on March 5.

The team, coached by placed first at the Connecticut High School Dance Team Championships for their jazz and hip-hop routine. The team competed against 11 other hip-hop teams and seven other jazz teams at the state level.

The following day the state champs traveled to Westfield, Massachusetts and placed first in the UDA New England Championship, according to Petriccione. They competed against six teams in the varsity jazz category, and came in first of three groups in varsity hip-hop.

Petriccione said “What makes this year so special is we won in both the jazz and hip-hop category, which is a first.”

Petriccione has been coaching the champs for the last six years, along with Linda Davies who started the team 11 years ago. Petriccione is the owner of the and encourages the girls to take private lessons at her studio, in addition to the 6-10 hours of dance team practice. Petriccione said the dance classes help with their skill and technique.

The team performs at all varsity home football and basketball games and raises funds through private donations, car washes and other fundraisers.

“The girls have worked extremely hard and had an incredibly successful season and we're so proud of them,” Petriccioine said.

“They truly deserve recognition for their accomplishments.”
