Troop 5 Ski Trip to Jiminy Peak; Annual Mulch, Seed Sales

Scouts hit the slopes for February trip and plan two fundraisers.

Boy Scouts and leaders from Brookfield Troop 5 recently ventured up to Jiminy Peak in Hancock, MA for their annual ski trip. The conditions were very good, considering the lack of snow in this area. The trip began with a meeting at at 5:45 am. Most of the boys were on the slopes by 8:30 and skied until 4 p.m.

The ski trip is just one example of the outdoor activities that Troop 5 offers. The troop camps every month. In fact, they have accumulated over 550 months of consecutive campouts. Activities include biking, canoeing, hiking and numerous others. Any boys who are interested in joining the troop can contact Dave Morehouse, Committee Chairman at committechairman@brookfieldtroop5.org.

One aspect of scouting is for the boys to learn how to be thrifty. With that in mind, fundraisers can help to offset the Boy Scout’s costs for camping and other activities.

Two troop fundraisers are currently being conducted. One fundraiser is their annual mulch sale. This year, the mulch comes in a variety of colors and each bag contains 3 cubic feet. Prices are as follows: 1-12 bags are $6.50/bag; 13-24 bags are $6.25/bag; and 25 bags or more are just $6/bag. The price includes free delivery to your home. Anyone interested in purchasing mulch can send an email to janofsky5@aol.com

The other fundraiser is the annual seed sale. Vegetables, flowers and other seeds are available to help make your garden beautiful this spring. Prices range from $5 to $15. If interested, please send an email to martybsa@aol.com.

Its important the people learn how to treat our flag, many of our veterans have made the ultimateRead More sacrifice for our country and flag. Don't leave it out all night long, don't drag it on the ground while putting it up etc.

I would recommend supporting an increase similar to Ridgefield's which was under 2% (1.97%). If aRead More community like Ridgefield can perform at high levels with an increase under 2%, the Board of Education, in asking for almost twice that is openly admitting that they have installed inefficient management in school administration. Further, the sewer system on the referendum will require municipal funding since it is backed by the full faith and credit of the town of Brookfield and reduces the town's borrowing ability - the advertisement for which indicated it would not impact municipal funding.

So Mandarin Chinese won't be a requirement? Perhaps Manchurin Chinese? Cantonese Chinese? MongolianRead More Chinese? Which Chinese are the British speaking these days? Their empire stretched in the Hindu speaking parts of Asia but they aren't teaching Hindu. A quandry indeed.
