Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection for Brookfield Residents

Safely dispose of your hazardous waste at the next collection day.

Brookfield residents can get rid of their household hazardous waste for free during a special collection day on Sept. 13 in New Milford.

The collection will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the parking lot behind the railroad station off Bridge Street. The collection is open to several surrounding towns — Brookfield, Bridgewater, Roxbury, Sherman, Warren and Washington — but users must bring proof of residence.

Most standard household hazardous waste will be accepted (paint thinner, cleaning chemicals, etc.). All substances must be sealed in labeled containers. The contractors reserve the right to reject substances or impose disposal fees.

They will not be accepting any electronics — which can be dropped off for free at the nearby Recycle Center — or alkaline batteries.
