Flash Flood Warning, Flood Watch In Effect Wednesday

Residents are warned to take immediate precautions as more rain is expected to fall.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood warning for Brookfield and the rest of Fairfield County, in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday.

"Flash flooding was reported across the warning area, where up to 3 inches of rain had fallen," the NWS said shortly after 9 a.m. "An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is still possible through late this morning."

Runoff from the heavy rains could flood highways and underpasses and cause small creeks and streams to overrun.

"Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property," the NWS warned. "Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or automobile."

A flood watch is also in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
