'Even Aaron Can Do It'

Help create a piece of public art — even if you're artistically challenged like me.

I have little-to-no artistic ability. So, as I started adding pieces to the mosaic mural under construction at the Brookfield Craft Center, I was sure I would be the one to screw up a piece of public art destined to hang in the entrance to Town Hall.

Most people feel that way when they first get started, according to artist Bruce Hunter, who is managing the mural project with his wife and business partner Joanne, co-owners of The Art Spot.

Once people get started, however, they realize the process is quite natural.

Plus, the Hunters point out, they can always go in and fix certain tiles before the whole mural is solidified, just in case.

Volunteers take small broken tiles and glue them to a section of the 15x10 mural like a free-form puzzle/color-by-numbers game.

"If Aaron can do it, how hard can it be?" was heard several times throughout the morning, and it held true.

Beside the feeling of accomplishment as the puzzle begins to fill in and take shape, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished mosaic hanging in the Town Hall lobby knowing I had a hand in creating something that will add to the culture and beauty of Brookfield for many years to come.

The final product is a closely kept secret and volunteers working to piece it together are sworn to secrecy until the final unveiling.
