Brookfield Makes List of Best Places to Live in America

CNN's Money Magazine adds Brookfield to its list of the best small towns to raise a family.

Brookfield made CNN Money Magazine’s 2013 list of Top 50 Best Places to Live in America, coming in at No. 26.

Money Magazine sifted through the country’s small towns looking for ideal places to start a family. Along with low crime rates and access to jobs, the magazine gave points for “plenty of green space, good schools and a strong sense of community.”

Though Brookfield just missed the top half of the list, it did beat out the only other Connecticut towns to make it on — Cheshire at No. 39 and Simsbury at No. 50.

“Surrounded by the largest lakes in Connecticut, Brookfield is a great spot for water recreation — not to mention exploring lots of wooded hiking trails and open space,” Money Magazine contributor Kerry Fynn writes.

Flynn also mentions the lack of a downtown but notes that “an area with residential and retail development is under construction,” referencing plans to turn the Four Corners area into a mixed-use commercial and residential area.

Flynn states that the downtown area “should be completed within five years.”

Whether or not that timeline proves accurate, the Town Center District seems to be an important component in the overall ranking.

The best place to live in America? According to Money Magazine: Sharon, Mass.
