Brookfield Craft Center Gets New Board of Directors

Six new members elected and four more to come in effort to save the Craft Center.

After the Brookfield Craft Center closed its doors and canceled classes in June, local residents interested in preserving the artisanal school have been meeting to discuss how best to move forward.

On Friday, six members of that group were elected as the new Craft Center Board of Directors and an additional four members are expected to be voted in in September.

The new board includes Brookfield Arts Commission Chairman Mary Daniel, Allison Fulton, Nancy Farrell, Rachel Agati and local artists Joanne and Bruce Hunter.

Sandy Leverence, Greg Jones, Cathie Bedini and Kathy Reiff will be voted on to the new board at the first meeting on Sept. 16, 2013.

The first goal of the board will be to craft a sustainable business model that will allow the center to reopen and flourish.

The Craft Center closed briefly in 2010 due to financial difficulties but reopened under new management within months. The Center suspended operations again in June, stating at the time that the suspension could become permanent.

“We’re creating a new modernized business plan,” Daniel said. “We intend to reopen and resume traditional activities and much more in the very near future.”
