Brookfield Cops Serving Food, Not Tickets at 189 Thursday Night

Tips will go to support Connecticut Special Olympics.

Brookfield officers' experience writing tickets should serve them well Thursday night at 189 Sports Café, where they'll be writing out bills instead and hoping you tip a little extra for a good cause.

Brookfield police officers will be cooking and serving at 189 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with all tips going straight to the Connecticut Special Olympics.

The five to seven officers will be acting as trainees — waiting tables, behind the bar and in the kitchen — with Café employees leading the way.

Local police held two similar fundraisers last year at Maggie McFly’s and 189 and Brookfield’s volunteer fire companies held one at 189 in May in support of the American Cancer Society.

“We do it at least once a year, every year,” Brookfield officer Jason Fiege, Special Olympics Town Captain, said.

On average, the fundraisers bring in between $1,300 and $1,700 in a night, according to Fiege.

“It’s really great and we love doing it,” he said.
