The Watermark at East Hill Presents National Lecturer on Memory-Related Disorders

The Watermark at East Hill is pleased to announce that it will host The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine’s Peter V. Rabins, MD, MDH of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine for a presentation on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The event will be held on Monday, June 9 from 5 -7 p.m. at the senior living community, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury.

 

Dr. Rabins is a professor of psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, specializing in psychiatric disorders occurring later in life. He has authored more than 280 scientific papers and eight books, including The 36-Hour Day, now in its 5th edition.

For his lecture, Dr. Rabins will discuss the differences between dementia and Alzheimer’s disease versus other age-related changes to memory, and discuss information on effective non-drug treatments to combat symptoms of memory loss. Citing recent findings in clinical psychology, he will also identify preventative steps to potentially decrease the risk of developing memory loss. Following the presentation, Dr. Rabins will be available for a one-hour question and answer session.

“Whether experienced first-hand or through the care of a loved one, memory loss can be a confusing and stressful time in a person’s life,” said Michelle Bettigole, Executive Director of The Watermark at East Hill. “We are pleased to welcome a national figure like Dr. Rabins to our community because it is through shared knowledge and best practices that we may learn how to potentially slow the devastating effects of memory loss.”
