Brookfield Police Chief, Robin Montgomery, President of the Brookfield Lions Club, presented a $25 gift certificate from Michael’s to Anna Alves, a 7th Grade Student at Brookfield’s Whisconier Middle School , who was the winner of the Brookfield Lions Peace Poster contest. Ms. Alves’s poster was one of 45 entries from the 6th and 7th grade art classes. The winning poster could advance through several judging levels to the International Level were judges from the arts, peace, youth, education and media communities select one grand prize winner and 23 merit winners. Presenting the award to Ms Alves is Chief Montgomery (R) with her parents Louis and Leia Alves (L) and Art Teacher Pat Messer and School Principal Deane Renda (R) watching.
Each year's Lions International art contest for kids consists of an original theme incorporating peace. This year’s theme was “Our World – Our Future”. Participants use a variety of mediums, including charcoal, crayon, pencil and paint, to express the theme. The works created are unique and express the young artists' life experiences and culture. Last year there were over 350,000 young participants worldwide and their works were judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme and were shared globally via the internet.
Past Peace Poster Contest grand prize winners have come from Brazil, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Martinique, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Multiple District 300 Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.

The Lions Club is the largest service organization in the world with over 1.3 Million members in 45,000 local clubs. The Brookfield Lions support a number of local, regional and international causes including the Brookfield High School Braille Room, Eyeglasses for the Needy, Red Cross Blood Drives, Ability Beyond and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
