Brookfield residents, Angelia Prip (11) and Miya Kahan (14), performed in the AIM (Artists in Motion) Harvest Festival Gala on October 6 in New Milford. Artists in Motion, a student dance company in residence at FineLine Theatre Arts in New Milford, opened its second season with the fundraiser.
Each year students must audition for the opportunity to participate in the AIM Company. The dancers commit annually to a year of intensive dance instruction and performances. Both Angelia and Miya take a weekly 4-hour class that ultimately helps to shape the young dancers into disciplined performing artists. In the past, both girls have performed at the Warner Theatre and The Palace in Stamford as part of AIM.
The event on Saturday evening featured a piece by Robert Battle, the artistic director of the Alvin Ailey Company, that was staged by AIM Director Kerry Gallagher.
Additional choreography included pieces directed by AIM Founders, Elizabeth Parkinson and Arlene Begelman.
Both Miya and Angelia spent the past summer dancing. Both girls were accepted into Elizabeth Parkinson's 3-week Elite Dance Intensive. Miya went on to study at the Joffrey in NYC, and Angelia continued on to dance in the FineLine Theatre Arts 2-week dance intensive.
Both girls will be performing in FineLine's Nutcracker on December 22.
